Principal's Message

Dear Terra Cotta Parents, Students and Staff,

I am very excited to start the 2017-2018 school year. Our campus is undergoing some great changes, thanks to you and the passing of Measure V, we will now have new lighting, new air conditioning and new roofing. We are most excited that every classroom now has new IPads for our students.

We are also looking forward to our new math adoption, Big Ideas. This new curriculum will help our fabulous teachers develop strong, standards-based lessons that will provide our students with the skills to be college and career ready. Equally exciting, many of our English teachers will be piloting some amazing new materials this year. Our outstanding staff has been working hard all summer attending professional development and or providing Intervention to our students.

A huge thank you to our AVID, Band, Dance, and Intervention teachers who hosted summer camps this year.

Aligned with district LCAP goals, Terra Cotta Middle is focusing on some great areas for continuous improvement. For student achievement, we will focus on WICOR strategies school-wide that include writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and rigor. We will be focusing on integration of technology in inventive ways to enhance student engagement and depth of knowledge. Our science and social studies teachers will be meeting to incorporate the new social studies framework and NGSS into exciting new lessons.

An additional and important focus area is incorporating social skills and anti-bullying lessons school-wide. We are looking forward to involving students and parents in the process. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that our school has a safe, warm and inviting climate for students, staff and community.

We need your help. Please communicate regularly with teachers; attend all meetings as needed; make sure your student is here every day and on time; participate in our events; and be a part of our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), PTA, and our school governing board, SSC.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or my staff if you have any questions, concerns and of course compliments. Looking forward to a fantastic year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Nash, Principal
