Dear TCMS Parents, Staff and Students,
As we conclude our 2018-2019 school year, I am proud to say that we have achieved so much! With our preliminary State Test Scores in, we show a strong increase in math at all grade levels. Our English Language Arts made some positive gains as well. This is a result of our fantastic Mustang Staff, who has worked tirelessly all year, and in addition, has provided some great intervention opportunities for our students. We are currently targeting incoming students for summer math camp, dance, band and our AVID Bridge camp. This provides that summer reinforcement to keep the retention levels high.
As we move into summer and on into the 2019-2020 school year, I like to reflect on some outstanding practices going on here at Terra Cotta. We are proud to continue our work with our English Learners. With the dedication of staff, many English Learners reclassified out of English Language Development classes. Our Special Education population and out struggling students received amazing individualized services with a large team who never misses a beat. We also pride ourselves on our honors program that serves the Gifted and Talented students at Terra Cotta. We offer sections at all content levels as well as enrichment opportunities, STEAM, including robotics and engineering activities. Students learn behavior skills through working with lessons that help them make positive changes.
We were pleased to continue with our outstanding clubs and programs. We added this year WEB, Where Everybody Belongs. This is an 8thgrade mentor program for incoming 6thgrade students. Our PLUS program, a student leadership program to help build positive school culture, made a big splash on campus. As an AVID Demonstration School, we saw great gains in content area growth. AVID continues to pave the way to college for all of our students.
Thank you to all of our parents who joined and participated in SSC, (School Site Council), ELAC, (English Language Advisory Committee), and PTSA, (Parent, Teacher, Student Association). You helped to make a difference at our school. Please be sure to join for 2019-2020. Please look for an invite to Parent Square, our new online communication system. Please sign up so you can receive phone, email and emergency messages. More to come with Parent Square. We are currently receiving our update to our electronic sign in front of the school. We are excited to see lots of information posted on it soon. Please be sure to enroll your student for next year online and make sure all immunizations are current.
Our 6thgrade WEB Orientation is for students only on August 7th, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the big gym. Last names A – M will purchase items and pick up books on August 6th.
