Triple digit temperatures trigger excessive heat warning 7/23 - 7/26

According to the National Weather Service, an Excessive Heat Warning will be in effect from Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26, 2018 (see below). LEUSD will follow the heat protocol during this period.

...VERY HOT WEATHER THROUGH THURSDAY... High pressure will strengthen aloft, bringing an extended period of very hot weather except at the immediate coast and at the highest elevations of the mountains. The peak of the heat is expected on Wednesday. Nights will be quite warm as well, especially near the foothills of the mountains and in the deserts. Slight weakening of the high pressure and increasing monsoonal moisture will bring a cooling trend from Friday through the weekend, but with temperatures remaining above average..
 
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM MONDAY TO 8 PM PDT THURSDAY...
  • Temperature...High temperatures during the peak of the heat on Tuesday and Wednesday of 107 to 114.
  • Impacts...A prolonged period of very hot days combined with very warm nights is expected to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
  • Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

  • Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
